Lynk Solutec, a medical device surface coating technology company led by CEO Jungmok Seo, has announced the acquisition of two innovative coating technology patents that can significantly enhance safety in medical settings. The newly registered patents are for “Medical Implant Coating Composition for Foreign Material Prevention” and “Suture Coating Composition for Foreign Material Prevention.”

The core of these newly developed coating technologies lies in their special composition that fundamentally prevents the adhesion of all foreign materials, including blood, moisture, mucus, and bacteria. CTO Yeonteak Lee explained, “Medical implants and sutures come into contact with various foreign substances within the body, such as blood, mucus, bacteria, cells, and calcification. The adhesion of these substances can cause serious side effects, including infections, inflammation, and thrombosis formation. These patent technologies provide an innovative solution that fundamentally addresses these issues.”

The implant coating technology can be applied to a wide range of medical devices, including various types of stents for the esophagus, blood vessels, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreas, uterus, urethra, and ureter, as well as drainage catheters, injection catheters, parenteral catheters, and urological catheters. The suture coating technology is applicable to all types of sutures, including dental/ophthalmic and microsurgical sutures. Notably, unlike existing coating technologies, these new innovations allow for additional lubricant coating on top of the coated medical devices, further enhancing their performance.

CEO Jungmok Seo emphasized, “These patent technologies can dramatically reduce medical device-related complications. In particular, they can significantly improve the safety and accuracy of surgical procedures by minimizing the risks of infection, inflammation, and thrombosis formation.” He also added, “We are currently preparing for clinical trials to commercialize these patent technologies and plan to complete product development in the near future.”

Lynk Solutec, a spin-off company from the BioLogical Interfaces and Sensor Systems Laboratory at Yonsei University, continues to drive innovation in medical settings through its medical device coating technologies.
